What your rent help is worth, and where.

Every oleh who does not own a home gets monthly rental assistance from month seven to month 30. What almost nobody is told: for oleh status from 1 April 2025, anywhere in the North, Haifa, South or Judea and Samaria districts it is roughly three times larger.

Who is moving?

Showing the rule for oleh status from 1 January 2026. Enter your date to check yours: which towns pay the higher rate depends on it. Status from 1 January 2026: the higher rate is paid in every locality of the North, Haifa, South and Judea and Samaria districts, by the address in the Population Registry (procedure 19.000). Beit Shemesh has no supplement.

Renting in a higher-rate town is worth

₪32,184

more over the whole eligible window, for the same aliyah at a different address. That is 3.0 times the standard total.

Standard area

₪659 a month

Months 7 to 30, so 24 payments.

Total over the window: ₪15,816

Anywhere that does not pay the higher rate for your status date, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and the rest of the centre.

Higher-rate town

₪2,000 a month

Months 7 to 30, so 24 payments.

Total over the window: ₪48,000

Any of the 1,115 localities in the North, Haifa, South and Judea and Samaria districts on the Ministry’s official list. The address that counts is the one in the Population Registry.

Status from June 2026 in a northern border town or in Afula, Tiberias, Karmiel, Nof HaGalil, Nazareth, Akko or Safed? Enter your date: ₪500 a month more may apply.

Before you count on this

  • These rates are for oleh status from 1 March 2024. The rules changed on that date, and earlier status dates follow an older schedule this calculator does not compute.
  • Nothing arrives before month seven. Budget the first six months of rent without it.
  • Which towns pay the higher rate depends on your status date. The map was redrawn in March 2024, April 2025 and January 2026, and is set by Ministry procedure. Confirm your own town for your own date before it drives a decision.
  • You must not own a home in Israel to receive it. The Ministry of Construction and Housing pays it into your bank account automatically, with no income test and no lease to show, once eligibility is confirmed.
  • A cheaper periphery town usually means lower rent too, so the real gain is larger than this figure alone. It also means a different job market and a longer commute, which this calculator does not weigh.

Before you calculate

What it works out

Rental assistance (sa’al dira) is a monthly payment towards rent for olim. The calculator puts the standard rate next to the higher rate paid in qualifying towns, because the address you choose changes the monthly amount. Which towns qualify depends on the date you received oleh status.

The figures it uses, as recorded

Who it applies to

Olim with status from 1 March 2024, by household. Payments start in month 7 after aliyah and run to month 30 at either rate, so 24 payments. For status from 1 April 2025 the higher rate is paid across the North, Haifa, South and Judea and Samaria districts; status from 1 March 2024 to 31 March 2025 follows the older priority, Negev and Galil list. Earlier status dates are on a different schedule.

From June 2026, temporary order 432 adds ₪500 a month on top in towns 0 to 9 km from the Lebanese border (status from 2 June 2026) and in Afula, Tiberias, Karmiel, Nof HaGalil, Nazareth, Akko and Safed (status from 11 June 2026). It expires on 31 December 2026.

Worked example

A couple: ₪659 a month for 24 months at the standard rate is ₪15,816, while ₪2,000 a month for the same 24 months at the higher rate is ₪48,000. The address is worth ₪32,184.
