Pour : Nurses, doctors, lawyers, social workers, teachers and other regulated professions

Each regulated profession is recognised by its own ministry or body, on its own path. Get your foreign degree evaluated first, because since 1 January 2025 that evaluation routes through the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration.

• Nurses can sit the licensing exam in English, Russian, Spanish, French or Arabic, but a Hebrew-proficiency exam at roughly Ulpan Daled level, with medical terminology, is mandatory within 3 years or the licence never finalises. Passing the exam is not the finish line.
• Lawyers with 5+ years of practice abroad can apply for an exemption from the Israeli Bar exam; under 5 years means the Dinei Yisrael exam, an 18-month articled internship and the full Bar exams. A lighter "Foreign Licensed Lawyer" registration exists without becoming a full Israeli advocate.
• The most underestimated blocker across every licensed profession is the Hebrew requirement, not the professional exam itself.

Rules changed on 1 Jan 2025 and much of the guidance still online predates that. Treat this as the map to the right ministry, then confirm the current steps with that body before you commit time or money.

Pour : Anyone whose work needs a car: sales on the road, delivery, trades, home visits

A held-continuously foreign licence of 5+ years converts without a road test, but two separate clocks trip people up, and the gap between them is dangerous.

• You may drive on your foreign licence for only 1 year from your last entry. After that, driving on it voids your insurance.
• You may apply for no-test conversion for 5 years from aliyah. The trap is years 2 to 5: still eligible to convert, but not legally allowed to drive until you have.
• Bring a full DMV or licensing-authority driving abstract. A recently reissued plastic card does not itself prove 5 years and is the single most common rejection reason.

Pour : Freelancers, consultants, tradespeople, small shop and studio owners

Osek patur is the exempt tier for small annual turnover: no VAT charged on invoices, minimal filing. Osek murshe has no ceiling but charges VAT and files regularly. You register directly at the VAT office; an accountant is not legally required to open the file.

• Osek patur suits low-turnover, service-heavy work with individual clients. Above the annual threshold you must be osek murshe.
• Osek murshe charges VAT on every invoice and files VAT returns, so most people use an accountant even though the law does not require one to open.
• Your osek status changes your tax and your olim benefits, so check where you land before you register.

Pour : Olim within 10 years retraining into a new field, especially high-demand ones like tech, nursing and education

The Ministry of Aliyah covers most of the cost of an approved professional course: up to 80% of the price, capped at 7,000 NIS, whichever is lower. A subsidised retraining course can end up costing you very little.

• Eligibility: an oleh within 10 years of aliyah, at least 15 at the time, with Hebrew at roughly Ulpan Alef level, settled by a short placement test.
• You are referred by the absorption counsellor (rakaz klita) in your district, or apply online through the Ministry, so start with your counsellor rather than a course website.
• It leans toward fields in real demand, so the approved list favours high-tech, nursing, education and vocational-Hebrew tracks rather than every course going. This is where a Klita-approved course, including one for building with AI, would sit.

The figures and the approved-course list change, and eligibility has fine print, so confirm the current terms with your absorption counsellor before you enrol.

Pour : Career changers, especially into growing non-engineering roles

Nefesh B’Nefesh runs short-term retraining tracks in hi-tech sales, digital marketing, content marketing, UX writing and full-stack development, alongside a job board and resume intake.

• The support model is advisory. There is no stated placement guarantee or SLA, so treat it as guidance and a network, not a job promise.
• It pairs with their employment counselling and job board, which is the more valuable part for most non-tech olim.

Pour : Anyone whose earning ceiling is really a Hebrew ceiling

The Ministry of Aliyah funds private-ulpan study through a voucher, because for most non-tech work Hebrew is the actual constraint on what you can earn.

• The commonly cited cap is 7,500 NIS or the course price, whichever is lower, for roughly 200 study hours over up to 6 months.
• Register within about 6 months of your aliyah date to preserve the full entitlement.

Pour : Single olim in their twenties, open to the Negev or Galilee

Ayalim runs student villages across Israel’s periphery: subsidised or free housing plus a scholarship, in exchange for community volunteer hours. A periphery landing pad with built-in community and near-zero rent.

• As of 2025 it ran about 22 villages and alumni communities, engaging roughly 1,300 young people a year.
• It is actively re-opening the Kiryat Shmona village with bigger scholarships and free rent, which also means weighing real, recent, war-driven uncertainty in the north.
