What your rent help is worth, and where.
Every oleh who does not own a home gets monthly rental assistance from month seven. What almost nobody is told: in a National Priority Area, the Negev or the Galil, it is roughly three times larger and runs six months longer.
Who is moving?
Choosing a priority area is worth
₪44,184
more over the whole eligible window, for the same aliyah at a different address. That is 3.8 times the standard total.
Standard area
₪659 a month
Months 7 to 30, so 24 payments.
Total over the window: ₪15,816
Most of the centre, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and the coastal cities.
Priority area
₪2,000 a month
Months 7 to 36, so 30 payments.
Total over the window: ₪60,000
National Priority Areas, the Negev and the Galil. Check the current list before you commit: it changes by government decision.
Before you count on this
- These rates are for arrivals after 1 March 2024. The rules changed on that date, and earlier arrivals are on a different schedule, in some cases a longer one.
- Nothing arrives before month seven. Budget the first six months of rent without it.
- Priority-area status is set by government decision and changes. A town on the list today may not be next year, and the map has been redrawn repeatedly. Confirm your specific town before it drives a decision.
- You must not own a home in Israel to claim it, and you apply through the Ministry of Housing rather than receiving it automatically.
- A cheaper periphery town usually means lower rent too, so the real gain is larger than this figure alone. It also means a different job market and a longer commute, which this calculator does not weigh.
